At hot idle mine is about 1/3 scale at higher speeds it goes up to about 3/4-7/8 scale. When it's cold in the morning it's almost to the max at anything much above idle.

On the first day of a two week road trip (out in the western half of North Dakota) the oil pressure gauge started twitching and then slowly faded to zero. Oil temp and coolant temp remained solid and there was no loud clattering coming from under the hood so I figured I had some oil pressure. An anxious call to a friend who is a GM master tech confirmed the oil pressure sensor was failing, not the oil pump. Stopped at a NAPA outlet in Montana to get a replacement and that took care of it.

Now at cold idle the needle is nearly max'ed out. At warm idle it rests about in the middle of the range. At 2k rpm cruising speed the needle is at the 3/4-7/8 part of the range. (Sure wish the gauges had some increment marks on them. I hate guessing what they're actually reading.)
