No, they probably have enough money to not care whether 100k is a good deal or not.

The fact is that there were other people bidding at least something close to that number in order for it to get to 101k. So whoever bought it, isn?t alone.

I wouldn't consider this a fluke, but rather the direction the overall market is going right now. Including this one (and it's original mecum auction), there have been 7 ZR1 auctions reaching >$70k in the last 6 months. The previous high was a 93 Anniversary which brought $86k in March on BaT. A multipart combo of very low mileage, desirable color, and proper storage maintaining near original condition helped push this one to the top.

There were 14 bidders on that 2000 Metro with 5 bidding over 10k...Says a lot less about the value of the car and a lot more about the bidders disposable income.

Unless there is another Quaser Blue out there with 211 miles on it, I'd say good buy for the new owner....And BAT is notorious for overpriced vehicles. That is the color I wanted but couldn't find any nationwide in 2015-2016, so I instead went for the Polo Green. I personally think any ZR-1, with under 250 miles should be going for these prices. These are under-rated, under-loved, under-priced Vettes that get a bad rap because it's a C4. Those of us who own them, know how special they truly are....

I would suggest changing that from are to "were".

ZR-1's have been quietly going up for years now.

Lately, some not so quietly.

This is not a new phenomena.

They are going up and will continue to do so.

All old Corvettes first sell for less than sticker, then for sticker, then for more, then for multiples of original sticker.
That's right.
All and Always.

It is simply a matter of the passage of time.

Corvette market prices go up and down always in the shorter intervals.

Long term.

ONLY up.

You and I certainly agree to disagree on this, but I've been watching these cars for years and years, collecting data, doing statistical analysis, etc. Saying they have quietly been going up for years is misleading. They are higher now than they were 5 years ago. In that same span of time they were up, then down, then down more, then back up slightly...

The entire used car market is up 45%. Take a ZR-1 that sold for 30k two years ago and add 45% and you're at 43.5k. Now look at the exceptional number of low mileage cars that have come out lately. Two years ago a car like this might have sold for 55k. That would be 80k today. Add the "poorly informed impatient buyers premium" that BAT seems to bring and it's not that far off. Let's face it, a used Toyota 4Runner is up well over 55% in the last year. I'm not sure the price increase as of lately is anything more than the current car market inflation.
