Re: How much room do I have to shim the drivers motor mount for headers
I went to do my motor mounts today, the were like your already as far right as possible. I had planned to reuse the OE heat shields but they looked rough so I am waiting for heat shield material to make my own shields. Should be here Friday, the passenger side seemed not to have any shim at all, I did not remove drivers side yet.

Re: How much room do I have to shim the drivers motor mount for headers
From my experiance the OBX headers are not an exact copy from the Stainless Works. They don`t fit bolt on. You have to match the pipe from the first cylinder. If not you will touch the steering column shaft. 1/2 inch distance is required as minimal heat protection. So you have to buckling the pipe nearly 50% with a high performance loss.
The OBX are much cheaper then the Stainless Works...but I think: made in China (they forgot the car around the engine/headers).

My 94 had plenty of clearance when I installed OBX. |

Yes, cloud be possible, can you post a pic from the clearance? When I installed the OBX (3 times on different ZR-1) there was only 1/4 clearance between the header pipe cyl. 1 and the steering shaft...not enough in my opinion.

That is a ridiculous amount of "dimpling"... I installed Stainless Works on my 92 and Watsons on my 90.... no "dimpling" whatsoever... and the Watsons were purchased used...

Re: How much room do I have to shim the drivers motor mount for headers
BTW I just know OBX and Stainless Works for LT5 headers. Are there other manufacturers...?

94 has a ASR module in the way. So, this is the only angle I can take a shot. https://www.flickr.com/photos/158930...posted-public/ |

Re: How much room do I have to shim the drivers motor mount for headers
Thatˋs what I mean...a barbq for the aluminium material of the steering shaft....In my eyes technical nonsens and dangerous for the driving security: absolutely a no go for the German T?V (the 2-yearly technical check requiriert by law).
Maybe at low engine rpm no heat problem...but 2 houres at highspeed on a German Autobahn...? Can end deadly.

It doesn?t get as hot as you might think. Notice how factory decal made out of thin vinyl is staying intact? Last edited by secondchance; 12-12-2020 at 09:10 AM. |
