Marc’s article shows phosphate of 1000 and zinc of 1100 for Mobile 1 High Mileage. I noticed the latest product data from Mobile 1 High Mileage phosphate and zinc content dropped to 800 and 900 respectively.

So the Mobile 1 is now 67% of the phosphorus SG requirement and 69% of the Zinc SG requirements. Although Marc’s original analysis at the time was valid, his point is that Mobile 1 has been reducing the required amount of additives over time. You may not ever notice an impact on your engine, cam shaft chains or catalytic converters , but way chance it. “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”

The API SN Pus of the Amazon oil means it’s protection against low speed pre-ignition for Turbocharged and direct injection gasoline powered vehicles.

Warren Distribution makes the oil for Amazon and Walmart. Seems to be the same oil.

The Amazon oil beat the Mobile 1 in the cold weather test.

It would be nice to know the zinc content.

This data is from 2014 and helped me purchase my oil over the past few years while at the local AutoZone or such.

I will faithfully use Mobile-1 in everything that I own. (Even my lawn mower gets it...lol)
Trust me, I’ve seen all the tests and I’ve also seen real world LS engines with 300,000 very hard miles, that still had the original factory cross hatching in the cylinders and bearing coatings in as new condition after I tore them down while using only Mobil-1....

I’d rather not delve into the chemical properties of all the oils and what labels say.... I trust real world results. And guys, remember....When we’re talking about Zinc content, we are referring to PPM (parts per million) that’s like one small drop in a 10 gallon tank of oil.... just putting things in to perspective.

Well with Mobile 1 high-mileage changing its formula it may finally be time to start using Amsoil Z-Rod 10w30. $143 for a case of 12 qts plus shipping.Ouch!

Regardless of what you've seen, which I'm not doubting, the chemistry is important. There are, without question, better oils out there than mobile 1. And oil is application specific. Saying that because it's the best for the LS1 doesn't necessarily apply to a flat tappet LT5 or your valve in block air cooled kohler...

Also, implying, as an engineer, that because ppm for an additive is very small, and I guess implying that it's somehow not important...is misleading. In this day and age, those additives (in ppm) are the only things differentiating one companies oil from another.

The old adage goes:

Sometimes a small amount is important.
