He informed me they spend millions of dollars on Market Research, product Association and population Dynamics studies. That this is good for all parties because of the history of the LT5 success and performance which is a testament to our cars and we should hold on to them..... I thanked him for lunch and his time then I ended it with "I'm not buying what you're selling and it's a good sales pitch for an engineer but unless your NEW LT5 is a DOHC motor it's not a LT5." He nodded with acknowledgement smiled shook my hand and thanked me for my input..... I know it's not going to make a bit of difference but I felt it needed to be said.
I totally agree w/ you - TOTALLY. AND, as Dom point out, GM never officially acknowledges the LT5 or the records the ZR-1 set with that motor. To glom onto the name and reputation and infer it to something else entirely is an example of an old, cheap advertising bait and switch gimmick. I and most Corvette enthusiast see through it and, frankly, find it a little(?) disgusting.

Who cares what they call it; I just want to drive it!

They really don’t have any imagination to come up with a new name.
Like Dodge calling their late model engines Hemi even though they do not have hemisphereical heads.

5,000 miles in 24 hours?

5,000 miles/24 hours = 208 mph.

No.

My mistake. I’m an enthusiast.

Three outright World Records: 5000-kilometers at 175.710 mph, 24-hours at 175.885 and 5000-miles at 173.791, plus four other FIA International marks in class A-G2-C10. Immediately after the event, the drivers and crew signed the underside of the hood. The WRR ZR-1 went on a promotional tour and then was donated to the National Corvette Museum where it remains, today.

I Googled the new "HEMI" and in fact the chamber is NOT hemispherical as in dayz of old...but close! In fact, except for the dual ignition (plugs) and half as many valves, it appears close to a 'more familiar' pent-roof design. (Pent-roof: Wonder where we've seen THAT before???)

My Road Chicken was a lot of fun.First car out of college bought used for $2,000. And unfortunately sold for about the same when I ran out of money. Only thing that ever could keep up with me in street racing (in my youth) was a 4.9 liter Ferrari and I had five guys in the car. Interestingly, the 0-60 time for the Hemi Road Runner in Car & Driver was listed at 4.8 seconds, the same as the 1990 and up ZR-1. Quarter mile time was 13.5 at 105. Not bad for the day....--Bob

I drove a 70 Boss 302 back in the day. I’d always get beat in the last part of a quarter mile. But would beat big blocks off the line... I finally switched to a 68 Corvette 427 convertible with roll bar, scatter shield, line lock and electric fuel pump. Wish I still had both cars...
