Dempsey,
Is there any indication that the mirror finish helps flow? My understanding was that u want some tumble in the runners. Also, that w a mirror type finish, it would actually form a slower layer along the sides of the runner. What's been ur experience? Last edited by XfireZ51; 02-01-2017 at 05:42 PM. |

X fire, as of now they're is no indication that I have of a beneficial difference between machine and polished, there is arguably more flow with mirrored finishes,(and I have heard of the polished walls causing interference with laminar flow in some instances . Also, you should not mirror finish after the injector do to Atomization of fuel on a correctly machined surface.I do feel though there are some clear benefits to a polished finish as carbon will not stick to either the intake runners nor the exhaust ports freeing valuable space. Also, the Surface is much more uniform that isn't clear to the naked eye.... With that being said we are flow benching all the different options when it comes to size, surface, and variance between intake runner size, IH size, and then head size..( something like a coned 36.5 mm to 34.5mm Port)36.5 millimeters at the intake runners 36 mm at the IH's and 34.5 at the bottom of the heads(all smoothed and port matched) creating some velocity at the valves. With that being said. All these sizes of these ports would be dictated by cams, size of engine ect.

Learned this concept as hydrodynamics, race boats have sanded bottom, not waxed. Also why a golf ball is dimpled. It's a lot of extra work, for nothing gained. Looks awesome if your standing inside the plenum. |
