Goldcylon, I notice you have a Dewitts radiator. I installed one in my 96 LT4. It was when they first came out with the units that had an extra row. The thicker unit presented some challenges but when all was siad and done, I was happy I did it. Can really see the difference. How difficult was it to install in the ZR1?

KJL, Only modification is to shave about 1/4" off internal fin separating primary and 2ndary fan (when you remove the shroud back panel, you will know what I mean) on the back panel of the radiator shroud. |

Ran 6 hours home to CT without incident. In the meanwhile, blew out the air side with compressed air and flushed with Simple Green and garden hose. Lotsa dust and crap came out! Of course, removing the radiator and back flushing would be better, but that's enough for now. The car has never overheated before and the guage always indicates just shy of halfway. It was so hot that....
Hot enough to turn on the warning lite. Guage was in the high end of the scale, the numbers on the guage are there for looks... 95+ degrees, heavy bumper to bumper stop and go traffic with the AC on, can't blame the car... Both fans running, (Marc's chip...) no steam or over flow, overflow tank level was fine. Note: It's amazing how many overflow tanks you see empty... Glad I put on new hoses this year... Immediatly turned off AC and turned on the heater wide open @ max temp. Pulled into a parking lot and let it cool for 45 minutes or so and waited for traffic to ease before finishing short trip remaining to motel. Later in the evening after cooling, started and ran fine with no issues. Next morning told Marc all about it, he didn't get all excited just recommended that radiator needed a good external cleaning. He said not to worry about it, but keep an eye on it.. Ran fine not overheating on the way home to CT Saturday, still about 95 out... Lotsa crap when I did my half baked flushing, good enough for the time being... |

Clutch and Rear Diff Upgrade Experience
For the 90-92 This link below is helpful in determining coolant temperature (deg C) unless you have 93-95 which will give you coolant temperature in deg F using the Gauges button on the Trip Monitor (Temp shown on Speedometer).
Just remember you are shooting for around 100 deg C (100 deg C is 212 deg F) on HOT days (100 deg F). Using HVAC Display for Engine Coolant Temperature Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry
