I have a '79 bandit 400 4spd wich i have owned for 22 years. as popular as those cars were you don't see clean one around that oftern. when friends come to the house they pass by the 3 corvettes and talk about the smokey and the bandit trans am.
You need a higher class of friends.

What a treat those cars were in a collision environment, all of them from '70 on. Right profile hood decals, left profile decals, Y84, Y85, Y88 and on and on. A couple fellows did the sheet metal but I ended up with the stripe tape/decal orders for all. Then you had a body-man or painter that didn't want to check RPO codes. You need to remember when these cars were popular there weren't digital images.

A positive for these cars for sure was the fact that many couldn't drive and they visited the shops repeatedly.

The '84+ cars were quite a treat also.

Nothing against Trans Ams; I actually think they're pretty cool, especially the SD models. But the question is whether you should buy the most collectible edition of THE premium American sports car - the best of the best - or a Trans Am? I must be missing something here. Am I not accounting for a large price disparity between the two models you're considering?

One other factor that you may want to consider, aside from everything else that's been mentioned, is the fact that the T/A is long since discontinued and since its manufacturer is also no more, it will not be pulling a Lazarus act, as did the Camaro. This certainly has a negative effect on values and resale, although exactly how much remains to be seen.

Once again, T/As are certainly cool cars, but I'm sure you know that you're comparing apples and oranges here. Good luck.

that is true. if he said that it was between a mid year coupe 4 speed or a 1973 455 SD for speed then of course the super duty. the 455 sd is a very special engine option and rare model. that would be the only time I would take a TA. Of course any ram air V or ram air IV pontiac product would also trump the mid year corvette.

1965 nice car. first year for disk brakes and hopefully you will get an optional engine.. 350 hp 4 speed. great combo for that car.
