Re: No more painting Plenum and Cam Cover Letters
Cam cover emblems are available, why not get them?

Re: No more painting Plenum and Cam Cover Letters
Lee,
You can count me in. Red for the numbers and black for everything else would be slick. Keep us posted on the progress. Thanks, Charles

Re: No more painting Plenum and Cam Cover Letters
That sounds like a good idea. I wonder how difficult they would be to apply?

Lee, Speaking of Cam Cover Emblems do you have a set for the 90?

Re: No more painting Plenum and Cam Cover Letters
If you look at the close-up detail in Paul's pix, the cast groove of the lettering isn't perfectly smooth, therefore if you apply a cut vinyl, (or whatever material), into it the edge of the letter it would distort, wouldn't it? Would it be cut to cover the bottom of the groove, or fill the sides too? Then you've also got the problem of the vinyl folding and distorting if it's meant to fill both the bottom and the sides of the groove.
Of course, paint doesn't have this problem, it just flows into the groove. And you trim the edges, as Paul did. What if you designed it the opposite way. A stick-on vinyl stencil, that you could carefully apply to the head. Then brush, or spray in the lettering, peel the stencil, and get the sharp edged lettering you desire. Or, take it to your local Pin-Striper. Those guys have the brushes, paint, and steady hand that the rest of us don't. Just some thoughts....... someone stop me before I have another cup of coffee! |

Re: No more painting Plenum and Cam Cover Letters
Bob I have done a lot of these, the issue is sometimes the paint can ruin good powdercoat, so I am looking at alternatives. There is aleady a car with the same setup as ours that has been done, cast aluminum, etc even 32V

Re: No more painting Plenum and Cam Cover Letters
The PO said he had them and would give them to me when I bought the car. Then it turned to i have to look for them and then to no reply to pms or text messages. It just made it harder to buy a pair when I was under the impression I would get them.
Filling the sides is a non issue. If they fit the bottom and are 3d/a little raised they will look great. If anything the sides will reflect a little making them look more 3D. I figured having a matching emblem would look great but that probably wouldn't happen. Maybe Jerry would sympathize with my sob story and give me a deal for emblems lol. I'll most likely end up doing something custom with cf to fill my emblem spots. |
