I have comp insurance. So I'm covered other than $300 excess, which is good. Still trying to come to terms with the whole thing though. I dreamed of getting this car for 18 years and for this to happen just tears me up.

I never leave any drawers open, I know what can happen. Carbon fiber hood is out of the question, wish I could though - Hil wouldn't mind at all! Like Jeff says, at least it was the front!

Lee (Lgaff) is right about getting good insurance. I have to say thanks to him for his insight into the other side of the insurance 'coin' - my insurance isn't the cheapest, but they didn't argue at all and just said "Okay, let's make this right for you". For which I am very grateful.

Dave, you have my empathy on this freak accident!

I hope that this all comes out fine in the end. Where the wheels on the bottom boxes locked? Hey I know where there is a great body guy in Indiana!

here's to a speedy recovery for the Z!

Tom

Dave,

Sorry to hear about this misfortune and thanks for sharing. I have to think about this and figure out how to strap my tool boxes down when it arrives since it will have to be very close to the Z in the garage and home rented here. You know I am in earthquake heaven here. Wishing you the best outcome to repair. I can't get any comp or collision insurance here with the company I have so I don't even want to drive it.

Tom - yes the wheels were locked. There are a couple of shops here that have been recommended by other vette owners in the club I'm in. One of them is run by an old vette guy so I'm going with him.

Craig. I'd recommend strapping them for sure. run a strap to the wall through the handles maybe? That's the way mine are arranged now! Where you are you probably get a lot of 'small' quakes that no one worries about but could cause something like happened with me. That sucks about the insurance - can you get anything through a different company?

Dave,

I'll figure something out with the landlord. The walls are all concrete and not sure if they will allow me to drill to put some bolts and nothing now to strap to. More importantly a direct hit quake to this area with have the home come down on the Z with no coverage. I am still looking for a company that will deal with US forces SOFA status since we don't have Japanese safety inspection and they have "rules" as you can imagine. Did not do enough checking before moving about this insurance stuff and would have never imagine that you can't get full coverage for any car over 10 years old. There are C1s driving all over the place and they can get full coverage because they are Japanese; seems like discrimination to me.

Thanks everyone for your sympathy - it's much appreciated I can tell you. I might be tempted to do something 'bigger' but still saving pennies to get the proper garage built this year so I don't have to put the car in storage over the winter.

That really sucks Craig. I'd be terrified if I didn't have insurance cover - it sure sounds like discrimination. Hope you manage to get something worked out so you can drive the Z without worrying

If I was going the new hood route I'd want to get a carbon fiber hood I think. I wouldn't go the hi-rise root though, they're just not my personal taste.

Dave,
I just PM'd you on the other issue and read this. I'm so sorry and would have been devastated, too. I have crap piled all around mine and I guess I better heed your post and clean up.
Glad you insurance is treating you well.
