That's a Z-Industries calibration for an early engine. Standard Z-Industries cal. enhancements were: disable skip shift, lower fan-ons, slight spark changes, slight lean-out of WOT fueling. Z-Industries also did custom tuning work.
Z-Industries was one of the early LT5 calibration sources. Operated by Ron Zimmer, who was a major force in aftermarket "tuning" during the 80s, 90s and 00s, did quite a bit of LT5 work in the mid-90s. He did most of the calibration work for the modified LT5 which I had in Barney, the 95 I used to own. Barney's engine was equipped with an AutoMasters "Street Skinner" performance package which raised the flywheel power to just over 500-hp. Automasters, run by the late Jim Van Dorn, used either DRM or Z-Industries cals. Ron Zimmer was also co-developer of the 93-95 EGR "fix" that was developed in the late 90s and which allowed more 93-95 engines to pass the California Smog Check. I kept a Z-Industries chip in my LT5 up until the last couple of years I owned the car when I used a Haibeck chip with some slight recalibration of secondary port throttle operation. As to what specific changes were made to the cal pictured, it might be hard to find that out as Ron Zimmer has retired and I have lost track of him. If you want to find out you're probably going to have to either read the calibration info in the chip and compare it to stock. Or...just try it out.

Anybody want to send me their chip, I'll read it. I can contrast it to stock.

I now have one from Dom’s “Calibrate Tuning” running nicely without secondaries.

Heibeck chip in the 90. Will also chip the 91 this summer with some other power mods.

Let's see, I've had Marc's chip, then another Mark's chip, then Pete's chip, now Marc's chip.
Way too much money into chips. I piece mealed it to 500+ hp. I'm sure it cost me way more than a 500 package had I just bit the bullet and done it all at once. |
