BMW motor oil Castrol TWS 10w-60 (synthetic) BMW P/N : 07-51-0-009-420 Opinions?
I had a great conversation with TomTom72 the other day in regards to fluids in the ZR-1.
Seems like this fluid is the way to go and Bill B also seems to recommend it for the ZF-6 which in and of itself should make it a no brainer. Tom uses it with no problems whatsoever and he does a decent amount of mileage per year. Upon researching it on several forums, it appears that there are also a bunch of guys who don't like it and question the choice. However, we all know everybody has their opinion. I would be interested to see who all here is running the Castrol and how long you have been running it in your transmission and any issues/concerns? Also, apparently there are others that are approved to such as the old gm stuff, the newer revised Gm fluids and apparently some others. If you know, please post the part #s. Thanks for your help. |

Had Redline, it foamed out and was all over under the car. This was from high speed run 150+ for 10 miles.
Used the BMW shifting was smoother, from Redline. No foam out. The last in it is, Amsoil Synchromesh. No high speed runs yet. shifter feels same or smoother then BMW. |

I've been running the castrol tws, I had two oil analysis done on it after 3000 miles and on both of them the viscosity dropped to 30 weight oil. Haven't had any problems though, but I change it every 3000 miles for that reason. Some others at the track run redline shockproof and don't have any problems.

Viscosity dropped from 60 wt oil to 30 wt oil? I guess this is normal as Bill B. suggested viscosity drops from 60 wt to 37 wt after 12,000 miles. Last edited by Dynomite; 01-22-2010 at 05:22 PM. |
