Default Clutch Replacement

Last week we replaced the clutch in Darrin's 1990 ZR-1 (ZR-1nce removed). The problem that required replacement was a noise from the clutch bearing.

Darrin got a new OEM style 1990-1993 clutch made by Valeo from AutoParts Warehouse:

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQChevroletQQCorvetteQQValeoQQClutch_KitQQ19901993 QQW0133-1598597.html

The job was straight forward and the tip and helps and go-bys here on the NetRegistry were very useful.

I took some pictures of a few steps for illustration. Here is Darrin removing the DS cat:

Here is a neat picture looking down the business end of a header. You can see the O2 sensor:

Here's David installing the bell housing:

Reinstalling the clutch slave cylinder. You can see the guide bolts that will be used to align the transmission to the clutch.

Engine is supported by one jack and the transmission is supported by another. The transmission would not slide into place, so we added the clutch fluid and pumped the clutch a few times and then the transmission slid into place easily:

Me after I got an oil shower. Note to self: When you are on the output shaft end of the transmission you wear the oil.

Yes, the lift is great.

The really dumb part about the oil is that the stain on the right side of me is when we lifted the transmission down. And then I got behind it again with some rags to stop the oil flow, but I got hit on the left side when we lifted it back up.

It was a great session. Good cars, and good people!

Looks like fun!
Sure wish I had a lift when I did my transmission last year.
Crawling under the car on the cold concrete isn't as much fun as it used to be.

Many thanks to Jim and Dave for a job well done. Jim's lift is awesome, And I decided that is the lift I am buying after I build my new garage. It is a pleasure to work on these cars when you are surrounded by good friends who are also good mechanics. I'm pretty sure Jim will be able to fix almost anything before long! I didn't think the job was all that bad, just time consuming. The lift definately made it easier!!!

Next up.......Leaf spring.....more details to follow I'm sure

Rich if you figure out how let US all know. I think we all suffer here the same way

A wise man once told me that everything and I mean everything cost no more than $100 at any given time. Its part of the LT5 secret handshake and Signet ring.

After the ZR-1 became mine, The wife suggested that we build a new garage for the Vettes. While we were in BG she was at home getting estimates. Her ideas of size were a little off though, she was getting quotes on a 40'X52'. I told her I'd be perfectly happy with a 36'X48', and of course 12' ceilings for the lift.

BTW I haven't gotten the secret handshake yet, And I'm all about secret handshakes!!!!

Shes a keeper Im turning my wife to the darkside by telling her to buy a c5. If I could find a Auto ZR-1 (yes they are out there that would be my first choice)

Damn! I've had to do that twice now without a lift. I've got to get me one of those.
