Default Now accepting advice?? look inside

I am now officially the proud owner of my 1990 ZR1, paid that "toy"
off a few months ago. I am now, fighting the itch for something else.
Any constructive thoughts, are appreciated. Here is what is surging
through my pea brain.

1. I could, modify my ZR1.. currently it has:
Watson Headers, hi flo cats, Haibeck chip, Hurst short throw shifter.
410 gears, C-Beam plates , Corsa Exhaust, torque thrust 2's chome wheels, goodyear d'3s. a pair of fuzzy dice.

OR:

I could start saving my Coin, to purchase a 2006 or newer ZO6.

Or, I could trade one of my daily drivers in on this, awesome,
2004 Modified ZO6. I love the looks of this Banana yeller, cobra killer.
It has some light mods, done to it, and has over 500 rwhp.

Only 29,000 on the clock. owned by a older gentleman, that only drove
it on sunny sunday's.

I can afford the 2004 z06, right now.
but i would have to wait a year or so, on the newer 2006 z06.
life is short, so what would pootie tang do??

Here's my vote and my reasoning.

Don't do it.

In 2004 there were 5,683 Z06's produced.
That's nearly as many TOTAL ZR1's produced.

Tom,
of course, I would not be buying the 2004 z06 as an investment,
it's the need for speed, my brother man.
Although, i understand, the car woujld retain, some value.
This is a cry for help, if you will

Keith Buddy:
If you're Jonesing for speed, slap a Raptor Twin Turbo on your Z.
If you want "Stupid Fast", head on down to your local motorcycle shop and buy the Suzuki GSX1300R "Hyabusa".

My older brother decided at 50 years old that he needed "Quickness" in his life.

Herer's my two cents worth, I'd do another round of mods on the ZR-1 AND buy the Z06.

I recently sold my C6 driver and upgraded my otherwise ZR1 garage queen. I now has everything your ZR1 has except I gave it to Marc Haibeck and had his 500Hp top end package less the aluminum flywheel. As far as I'm concerned it now looks and runs the way it should have when it was new. To the casual observer (and except for the CCW wheels) it also looks stock. It is a first class blast to drive and drive hard. In the first 9 years of ownership I put about 6k miles on it. Since this spring I've put 4K miles on it

Before the Haibeck package, I pulled about 370rwhp on a conservative tune. After the Haibeck package, I'm hitting 420rwhp (without the single mass flywheel) and still on a conservative tune. The difference is, however, amazing. From what I can tell, the difference is not peak Hp, the package seems to pull the entire torque curve up. With any luck I'll get a few runs in before the weather turns; that will be the real test.

My next step will be to match the ZR-1 with a C6 Z06 stablemate. I believe I'll then have two of the greatest Corvettes (for looks and fun) made.

Skip the C5 and get the C6 Z06. There will be several for sale in the next few months at great prices.

I would pass on the 2004 and get the C6 ZO6.

I kinda doubt it has >500whp. It says "500 estimated horsepower". It has headers and a cam. My guess is that's not adding 150+whp to the car.

I'd also say skip the C5Z and get either a C6 or C6Z if you were so inclined. The LS2 has about the same power as the LS6, and could be just as easily modded, and the car is newer and better looking.

If you can't swing it now, drive the ZR-1. Man, like that's some kind of consolation prize or something? Your money will go up and C6 prices will come down until they meet in the middle.
