Default Harmonic balancer

Since we just had a glorious thread about a owner needing to replace one, I thought I would throw this up as it will be useful in the future. Car had a horrific vibration at 3,500 that caused the shifter, clutch pedal assembly and basically the whole car to vibrate. You could feel a small vibration idle as well.

This is the old balancer still bolted to the motor. You can see the rupture points in the 11 and 1 O'clock position.

From the accident, this is where the steering rack was pushed into the balancer assembly. The rack now has a small "V" cut into the rack.

New and old balancer. Notice the use of only one balance pin in the 8 O'clock position. Note: Not all cars will have the use of only one pin, or in the same position.

When you say rupture point, does that mean some fluid has escaped it? Before you install the new one, do you match the pins that the old one had? Thanks for sharing the picts/details!

If you look at those positions, the rubber isolator has ruptured and become unseated. The balancer is two pieces, and when it become disturbed, you get out of balance.

The pins need to be replaced in the exact hole.
