A/C Compressor Clutch
Well... Here we go again! Is it possible to R&R an A/C Compressor Clutch without removing the Compressor from the car? I guess one run to 7000 RPM without turning the A/C to the "off" position fried it. I wasn't doing an all out run, just a spirited acceleration through 1st to Second gear, so I didn't think about shutting it off. Evidently it tried to engage at or near peak RPM. I can't find a procedure in the FSM, Chiltons or Haynes to even do an R&R of the clutch but they sell the compressors sans clutch so I guess it's possible to replace them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: A/C Compressor Clutch
I just looked in my 90's Helm FSM and as near as I can tell it appears that you actually can do an r & r on the clutch assembly....except they call it a pressure plate & not a clutch.
If you like I can transcribe the steps & e-mail them to ya. Oh, there is a special tool, J 33027-A clutch hub holding tool. It's for r 7& r'ing the compressor shaft bolt.....I may be wrong but why can't ya just use an air impact gun on that??? Let me know if ya need me to send the step by step to ya. Oh, fwiw, our compressors are auto shut off if rpms reach 4K.... modern electronics are wonderful....no? Tom sorry I forgot this, I bought a spare from a rebuilder in TX complete with the clutch...$450.00...found him on e-bay. I could send that info along if ya think ya want to check him out?
