So I am dreaming of what my next z should be. I remember some (not a lot) of C4 Zr-1 that had high over lap cams and sound great at idle and at 7,000. I couldn't find the YouTube videos. Anyone have good sound videos of their or others cammed Z's? Also I never driven a cammed Z. How the power curve/drivability.

I have been thinking about this lately as well. Although in most cases, I believe heads are ported along with the cams. I have everything opened up, but the heads. The idea of the changed idle with cams and the shifted power range is still intriguing.
I hate to not try it if I already had the engine out of the car and cam covers off, but it is probably a cart before the horse idea, without ported heads. |

The only thing I don't love about LT5 vs SBC is the amazing noises a high compression wide duration cam sounds on a SBC. Just curious about similar duration on LT5. Thanks @xfireZ51. Sounds good. Any revs or runs?
Also is that still 350 CID? Last edited by bmarcum; 06-23-2024 at 03:56 PM. |

The sound of a cammed SBC is due to the necessity for high lift/ long duration to get the breathing. 4 valves do that for the LT5, so cam profile can be relatively mild in comparison for similar or better performance.
Yes its a stock block 5.7L. Dyno?d at 454rwhp@6875rpm and 402rwtq@5300rpm. Last edited by XfireZ51; 06-23-2024 at 04:29 PM. |

Yes it is. The video was b4 tuning. Makes u think of what GM could have done continuing to develop that platform. Its the way it should have come from the factory.
