Looking for opinions what do you hear?
It is a DRM 500 package top end ported It has aftermarket connecting rods, after market pistons marked PMI388/I not sure about the cylinder liners, and I am pretty sure it had Nitrous run on it from the holes drilled in my storage compartment. I have no idea the abuse this engine had prior to me getting it but it has been fine for 19 years with a couple of misfire issues here and there. I have been driving it as a daily for years and it has always puffed a little oil smoke. I know I have something going on so im not to worried about it just want to figure it out before I yank it out. Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V4tnQdGc6Q I had Amsoil 10w40 high zinc in it put in last spring. I checked all over the place with my mechanic stethoscope couldn't really isolate it. Oil pressure was still good Last compression test was good but I have not checked it yet. I am pulling the oil pan to check for anything obvious I'm guessing a rod bearing. lifter? piston ring? piston slap or a rod knock. I cut open the oil filter and I have small ferrous metal in the filter not a lot but some. Anyway why do you all think it is?

Seems to be one "tick" per engine revolution (i counted 15 ticks in about 2 sec at idle).

The ticking noise sounds sort of like an exhaust leak. Does it go away when it warms up?

when my 90 was stock it made that noise 90-966, and when I put a different engine in it made the same noise.... 90-702 motor. There were some cam noise issues on 90s, I never figured it out on my car.... and it never showed knock.

![]() **** I wish. Lee mentioned a little thicker oil so I'm going to try that and see if it changes. I needed to fix a rear main seal leak and that pan gasket as well so almost ready to fire it up. So we'll see.

Totally different engine, but my L98 had a loose valve guide sound very similar to that clicking. I kept adjusting my rockers thinking one was loose.
