25 mile 90 ZR-1 sold on BaT for $70500
25 mile red/red ZR-1 sold on BaT for $70500!
Not only are the red ones the fastest, but they sell for the most (or damn close to it) too! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...ign=2021-10-21 |

It?s great for C4 ZR-1 values, but I don?t think I?ll ever understand the point of not driving it. Are any of the people who own these near-zero-mile cars actually active members on here?

Nice result. But I also don?t understand why there are so many basically undriven ones. Its basically, other then Porsche, the only truly drivable supercar. Reliable, and low maintenance. Yet, they just park them, I don?t get it.

Well, for some people a closed bottle of whisky or wine is a great investment - though they'll never know what universe of taste waits inside.
Maybe those ZR-1 collectors followed the same approach that's common for whisky collectors. Always buy 3 bottles: one to drink, one to swap and one to keep. Lucky who could follow that basic rule when it came to 60k+ dollars super cars back in 1990. Sent from my SM-G991B using ZR-1 Net Registry mobile app

Additionally, that car has been on/off e/Bay several times over recent years. But if you have owned a car for thirty plus years and never driven it, you can sit on it and wait to sell. So, if they paid sticker in 1990 and sold it thirty-one years later, they made approximately $10,000. If they paid more than sticker in 1990, it wasn't that great of an investment and they got zero enjoyment. But it has probably been a nice conversation piece over the years.

Add to the cost replacing every hose, belt, tires, battery, and general cost of getting it running (if that's what you want), or just put it in an enclosed transport and stick it in your garage with all the rest of the "toys" to look at it every once in a while. Not for me, I like to drive mine, but like they say, "to each his own".
And that seller did not make $10,000 on that sale. Add up the cost of 31 years of insurance and storage and inflation on the value of money, and he probably lost $50,000. At least he replaced the bushings in the headlights. But still a nice car. |

I sold my 168 mile Ruby 40th to a collector, to go into his private museum. Likewise my wife?s Commemorative Edition 53-03.
Just like there are NCRS & mod owners, waxers & drivers! To each his own. I have never recovered what I spend on mods, but I sure as heck enjoyed the build & power. Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry

I'm not denigrating people who buy cars and other things like this just to add to a collection. I guess it all depends on your station in life and amount of disposable income, and I really applaud them for preserving a pristine piece of history. It's like owning a Rembrandt or DiVinci. But for me, I would personally go nuts just looking at it every day just sitting there. So I guess that's why you need 2 or 3 of them.

Great to see museum pieces. God knows alot of cars from my youth will be lost to generations of people modding them. Me included. Glad to see someone took one for the team LOL
