Belt tensioner/Alternator squeaking
Finally picked up my new to me 1990 ZR1 with 4,475 miles. Car runs great and was gone through by Marc two years and 2,000 miles ago. The only thing I?ve noticed is a small squeaking noise coming from what I believe is the alternator pulley or tensioner. Belt seems nice and tight. I also noticed the tensioner moves around/adjusts on its own. Tensioner was replaced when the car was gone through. Any ideas on what could be causing the squeaking noise. Does either of these have a bearing or something that would need to be lubed or replaced. Also I noticed the car shuts off a little hard/loud. New to the LT5 platform so I don?t know what the normal sounds are for these engines. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Belt tensioner/Alternator squeaking
I guess both belt tensioner and alternator pulleys can squeak. Perhaps, you ca remove the belt and spin and see if it?s one or a he other.
I don?t think lubing would solve the issue. You might have to replace the tensioner pulley since the bearing is part of the pulley. If it?s the alternator, either replace the alternator or have it rebuilt at a specialty shop. |
