Default Few pics and comments on brakes and suspension>>>

I did a few upgrades to the brakes and want to share a few pics...

Pretty much the typical OEM look when I started... my project included rust removal from hubs and upgrading pads and rotors..

I have kept the OEM rotors, but will be sending to a company in California to bead blast and zinc coat (thus can return car to OEM set up)... here is their work on my C6 Z51 brakes>>
Before

After

For purposes of removing rust from hubs and leaving a zinc phosphate coating I use a product from EastWood... OxySolve which they now call Fast Etch and steel wool/brass wire brushes (really only need for stubborn spots)>>

Here is the ZR-1 hub after treatment

And now the completed set up.. EBC sport rotors, EBC ceramic pads, Goodridge SS lines and new caliper hardware

Note: black on rotor to pad contact area will rub off when brakes are used...this pic was prior to brake usage.

Michael. Looks awesome. You are making good progress on your upgrades. I think I will be purchasing a lift by the way. I thought yours was really cool. Have to try and get my suspension looking as clean as yours!

Cheers, Keith

Michael,

Would you mind providing contact information for the shop in California you used to plate your Z51 rotors? How did you package the rotors for shipment?

Thanks,
Scott

Hey it looks like you even have Steel half shafts on that one.. I think my 90 has aluminum, but I never really looked to close

Ron... arms etc were in good shape but I used Brake Kleen & Parts Cleaner (non chlorinated) on a rag to really bring them up to clean...

Scott... sure... company is called Specilialized Processing in El Cajon CA 619.442-0663 I sent them via FedEx ground in two boxes (each with two rotors)... wasn't bad cost wise. Specialized Processing will charge about $125 for all four rotors (they did about 2 years ago anyway)

Jeff... yep to steel half shafts... my VIN is 1990 #566 and I found out that they transitioned over to aluminum at about VIN #620 or so... any advantage or disadvantage of steel over aluminum or vice versa? other than the obvious weight difference

Now off to all fluid changes..
Thanks all
Michael

The steel is stronger, and of course heavier. I think they weren't sure the aluminum half-shafts would take the power? I think the only disadvantage is the weight, and possibly the appearance since they always look rusty.

What type of lift is that? Is it a permanent in-floor lift, or one you can move around the shop?
