Default 1990 ZR1 Starter replacement

Anyone in the Raleigh NC area know of a place where they know what they are doing and charge a reasonable price to replace the starter in my ZR1. I can buy the starter seems around the 200.00 range but need it installed as one is acting up.

I bought my starter from Jerry’s and had Hendrick Chevrolet of Cary install it. You should buy a new gasket for the throttle body to plenum connection. The TB can be removed and provide sufficient access to replace the starter. Inform the mechanic that the wiring is 29 years old and can easily break. Those wires are an easy fix if they break.

FYI - I replaced my starter when I was a very new ZR-1 owner, and later found that wasn't the problem. After I learned more about it, I was kicking myself for buying a new one, and turning in the core (because I think they are unique, right?). But it's good to hear Jerry has them. The "purple wire/relay" mod solved my problem (and/or VATS bypass).

You must be talking Alternater and not Starter

Yes my bad! Only had a couple of sips of coffee. Disregard my post on replacing a starter. Although, I did have the starter replaced by a Chevy shop along time ago and they had 3 LT5 certified technicians at the time.

Come to Carlisle and we can change it for you. Wazoo has done many alternator changes in various hotel parking lots and under the lights.

I got a call into my service advisor to get a rough quote, since the rates have gone up since I replaced the starter.

At least buy the starter. Jerry’s gaskets is my go to for parts. Rebuilt is $189.

My Hendrick service advisor quoted me $556 in labor (4 hours work) and can be done in one day. Labor prices have gone up since my major repair.

Are you having the Do Not Start (DNS) after driving and letting the car sit for awhile. This may not be the starter. This has happened to many members. There is a write up on a bypass procedure. Worth the read.

Check your battery condition first. Check all your connections at the electrical block underneath the battery. look for corrosion, loose connection or frayed wiring.
