Being the life blood of my engine, I feel oil is one place where I can step up and pay the "Piper" for the piece of mind. The difference in price after you buy the additive is negligible in my opinion. There are several very respected names here who use Amsoil... I think its safe to use it in my LT-5...
This. Mobile 1 High Mileage is 6 dollars a quart at Advanced Auto. The Amsoil people in here are using is 12.00 a quart. The Brad Penn I use is 7.00 a quart.

If 20-30 bucks difference on an oil change is making or breaking your classic car ownership...well, it might be time to rethink classic car ownership.

Plus, the additive I listed is 42 dollars for 6 ounces....just buy the better oil.

Here is some amazon oil: https://www.amazon.com/Brad-Penn-Oil...ag=googhydr-20

You have sold me Spork. Brad Penn is the bang for the buck that I am searching for. Thank you for your research and recommendation.

Why are so many people using 10w - 40 vs 10w - 30 or 5w - 30 motor oil?

Marc Heibeck recommends it for the additional film strength. A plus because face it no one's driving these cars in the dead of winter. A plus also because the higher film strength stays on the parts better for those of us that only drive them occasionally.

I guess so I am familiar with oil weight meanings and such. I drive my Z in the winter when there is no snow and the roads are clear. Except this past/current winter since the heater core broke.

I would not run 10w40 in a Chicago winter.

This is a very good short video from an Amsoil guy explaining zinc and modern engine oil.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpbVDGT40Rg

"boundary lubrication"..."if you don't have enough zinc you will eat the cam"....

Good explanation of modern engine oils assuming all cars have roller vs flat tapped cams.

If anyone on here has a GM pickup truck or newer BMW or Mercedes I understand the cars must use 0w20 or 5w20.

Anything above a 20 weight oil will cause the GM cylinder deactivation and cruising speed on the highway to not work/malfunction or operate inefficiently..

And on the BMW and Mercedes general running trouble with the engine.

Maybe GM and Lotus suggest staying with a 5w30 or 10w30 for a reason.

Food for thought.

After 35 years of Mobile 1 starting with 84 Z51 Vette 4+3, I am calling it quits and switching to Amsoil Z-Rod 10W-30.
It's interesting to see that Mobil 1 FS and FS X2, both specific to european cars, still contains 1000 and 1100 phosphate and zinc respectively. Could it be OHCs Mobil is concerned over?
