Leaking Cam Sensor?
I think this is the cam sensor... how do I make it stop leaking and what is the process for removal? Looks like its been seeping for a long time... I wiped it off in the pic, but the block has old oil traking down the side of it from this spot...

Re: Leaking Cam Sensor?
The cam sensor sits above the exhaust ports on the head. One bolt holds it in and it is sealed with a simple O-ring nothing else. While possible, more likely your leak is from the header stud at center bottom of the exhaust ports. Simply. Remove it, clean and reseal with high temp RTV.

Re: Leaking Cam Sensor?
Ok, I will reseal the header stud for sure.... HOWEVER... I am pretty certain I see a leak at the cam sensor. Look at the picture... do you see where its wet? I had just wiped that a couple minutes before taking the picture. So then I qould need a new O ring I assume... If thats the case... anything to watch out for when I remove it to replace the O ring?

Re: Leaking Cam Sensor?
Just make sure the O-ring is oil resistant. Check the sensor for cracks, but that’s highly unlikely. If the body of the sensor is compromised you get oil coming our where the wires go in. That’s about it.

Re: Leaking Cam Sensor?
My cam sensor started to leak a few years ago and in fact after talking with Jerry he said a crack in the plastic was common and is a source for the leak. At that time 3 or 4 years ago he didn't have a good source for them and wasn't selling them...not sure if he is at this time or not but I was able to source one from Rock Auto and hasn't leaked since. Small note, the heat shield is slightly different and I had to slightly modify it but nothing major.
Hope this helps, Steve

Re: Leaking Cam Sensor?
Well, the cam sensor was indeed leaking from the where the wires exit the sensor. I examined the sensor and could see a very fine crack on the flat portion of the sensor. I guess that was enough to leak especially when hot from expansion of the crack. All good now! Thanks again Phil!
