Yeah, I like CarPlay too. Just wish they would expand the available apps. I would much rather use Waze than the surprisingly user unfriendly Apple Maps.

Even android auto is limiting.. I just got an Alpine. No car play or android auto but the audio quality will be better than my android radio. I will have Bluetooth connectivity too

The idea of audio quality in an automotive audio system is a bit of an oxymoron. Especially when dealing w the ambient sound environment of our ZRs. I’m hoping I can recognize the song frankly. However, I do appreciate the added functionality that the AppRadio and CarPlay give me. |

Agreed. But the android unit I have is just terrible.. the brand names , Alpine, Kenwood, Sony, pioneer are all decent for a car. The Chinese android unit was subpar

I have Dom's "old" Pioneer head unit (thanks, Dom) ... haven't had time to install it in my Z but hopefully soon.
In the meantime I need to replace the radio in my '03 F150 and could use some guidance/recommendations. I'm looking for something reasonably priced that can display my Android GPS (prefer to not pay for built in GPS). Not interested in CD but ability to play MP3 from thumb drive or phone would be great. Looked at a Sony ($399) at Best Buy yesterday - seems to have OK reviews but my knowledge curve of these devices is way behind. Any help greatly appreciated. |

Gunny,
I really liked the Sony, there were a few things keeping me from it one being an updated version with a bit more function is due out soon. The Alpine ILX-207 is a nice mechless receiver for Android Auto and Car Play. It is a bit pricey. I was considering that unit ( alpine) but decided on a different alpine (W960) with CD and built in Nav. The one i got was used for under $300, so it is good enough for me until Both Car play and Android Auto step up their game. They both need to offer Waze with their car functions.. for the amount i will use nav ( and the amount I drive the Z) I think the radio I got will work fine.. I can run Apple Music through bluetooth and I have USB stick with music on it and no issues. I also have the XM tuner if I decide I want that too

Well here’s an update all. CarPlay is now working on my AppRadio4. Don’t ask me how. I did nothing that I know of. But its working flawlessly w iOS 11.
