Default A question about stock 91 exhaust.

I've gottin really bored with my car lately and have been thinking about a cat back system but room for my stock exhaust is limited. When the the stock system is broken down what's the longest section,is the resonator bolted on? Then to figure out which system? The tips for the Borla system look the best, don't like the look of CORSA stamped on all 4 tips. Has the drone issue been eliminated with the Borla system? Another option, one I've always liked the idea of is have a muffleler shop duplicate the 91 tips, put them on the aftermarket muffelers and have the muffelers powder coated black. One major benefits to getting the exhaust off the car I can fineally install my C beam plates and my Hurst shifter. Thanks.

It is ONE BIG piece.
All welded, from resonator to tips!

One piece yes BUT actually from the cats back is a single assembly with only an "adapter flange" on the right side resonator inlet to the converter on the '90 & '91.

I have a later LT4 system here and it occupies something near 4'6" width and 9'6" length. If you don't have 5' X 10' available on the wall or standing storage is an issue.

Yup, it's one big piece. Just went through the same process myself. It is my understanding only Corsa, BBE Fusion and the OBX/Maximizer have no drone. I went with the Maximizer because I'm cheap and I don't want a crazy loud exhaust. I couldn't resist a full stainless exhaust with no drone for under $400 shipped. Like many here I tried many different combinations on the last car. They all droned badly. Ended up with a Corsa on that car. The FBI guys came up with a custom 3inch system utilizing the Dynomax muffler and a vacuum activated flapper exhaust valve out of a C6 Z06 that is the best of both worlds, loud with drone but who cares and subdued with no drone, depending on valve position. But then you get that with the BBE Fusion too.

Should have mu install done in the next few weeks.

I went with Banks Engineering tips on my Corsa system. The Banks tips look much like the Borla units and seem to fit the contour of the exhaust cutouts in the rear panel.

I ended up going SW all the way back. I liked the tone of their mufflers and the tips. Fit the exhaust openings beautifully.. yes, there is some drone at 1800 rpm under light load. Had flowmaster on it and had to take it out in one piece. It was "rust welded" solid. Stainless or titanium are the best solution. Don't know anyone marketing titanium exhaust for the ZR-1 yet.[ATTACH][ATTACH]

The Billy Boat system was what I meant instead of Borla,I really like the tips on the BB system but if I can't find anywhere to stash the stock system I might be stuck until I get more room. The BB Fusion is something I might look into. Is there any drone issues with the BB system. Got a quote for the basic system and it's $1100 shipped to my door, polished extra components is an option.

Jeff,

If you pm me your e-mail, I'll send you a few pics - I've run into a problem again trying to post pictures to the network.
