Default Very interesting Gear drive

Saw this on Notberts German Facebook page (he helped with that Opel race car that they put a LT5 in) nothing was said about it so I have no other info. But boy I wonder what harmonics will build up in that drive train.

That's the legendary DFV grand prix engine. The gear train did suffer initially from damaging harmonic vibration. The solution? The drive gear to the cams was ingeniously mounted on several tiny quill shafts, which allowed a tiny bit of movement of the gear on the drive axle. You can't really see it that well in this photo.

Would imagine it is quite noisy too with all those straight cut gears. And the gear lash on acel and decel? Glad they chose chains for our street engines!
