Engine Pull this winter, what else should I consider doing while its out
My car will be going to the Surgeon, Doctor Haibeck for the winter to have the engine freshened up. While its pulled out, what other things should I consider having done so next year, after the engine is reinstalled, I don't think - Darn, why didn't we do that WHILE THE ENGINE WAS OUT!!!!
I'm also considering coil-overs. The car is set up and primarily used for HPDE's (and going to church). It has plenty of power, nice brakes, poly bushings, an oversized radiator, and roll bar. All this work was done in 1995-1997, but is still all operating as intended. If I was spending somebody else's money, I'd also do exhaust cut-outs, but I'm probably drawing the line at this and saying "no" due to cost. Car has about 27k miles for reference. All suggestions will be appreciated.

Marc's "510" package w/ 410 gears...would be nice if you don't already have it done. Headers?

Id start with a good cleaning, and then maybe deal with any worn wire looms, and grounds. Photograph all of the engine bay while its out so you know in the future when the engine is blocking your view. I have never had the engine out of a C4 so the other guys probably have more specific advise.

Re: Engine Pull this winter, what else should I consider doing while its out
Marc will do a Super Restoration for sure but I am not so sure he Blocks Throttle Body Coolant.....
Blocking TB Coolant, Fluidyne Radiator and Thermostats There is a BIG difference between TB Coolant Blocking and TB Coolant Bypass......I Block TB Coolant at the Injector Housing. Detailed items of a Restoration do depend on the condition of the engine before you start. Several Top End Restorations are described in my Signature of which Rebuilding the Starter is top on the list once the Plenum is removed. One last item....The Oil Pressure Regulating Valve Cover Plate....see item #3 Potential Oil Leaks and the OPRV Cover Plate With Engine Out....Replace Both 6mm x 15mm Bolts with 8mm Heads with 6mm x 15mm Bolts with 10mm Heads.

It's already got an extra 52 cubic inches. 410 gears, hmmmm, I have those in my '68 and it practically redlines driving 85 mph. The 410's might be good in this car - how would it affect the top speed or 1 mile drags? Headers are a good thought.... Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry

It already has a funky rhythm from LPE (239/231); hopefully not needed ;-)
It's been 19 years ago, so we'll see how well they held up.

Re: Engine Pull this winter, what else should I consider doing while its out
The great thing about Marc is he can serve up whatever you want! Headers and 4.10's are prerequisites for these cars. You've probably got an outdated exhaust system, too. Check out B&B Fusion, Stainless Works Turbo or Corsa. With the engine out, you can get the porting updated, plenum, injector housings and heads. And when you put it back together, include plenum insulator plates and throttle body coolant bypass. A friend of mine with a similar vintage 385 LPE picked up 55 RWHP after Marc freshened it up. Then there's the shifter. Boudreau or Hurst. You'll love the improved feel. And finally, beam plates. They don't look like they will work but they they really do help keep your car going straight under power.
