Hello.
I own '93 #317 ZR1 in Spain. I am testing now some different software packages to scan, record and read data in OBD I mode with my laptop computer. The best one I have tried is TTS Datamaster. I also have tried EFI Live and others with different results. If you have used other software for OBD I please post your opinion here. I usually use it to scan and record data during 30-45 minute runs on city, road and highway. |

The old original Vetronix Tech 1 or Tech 1a used by GM mechanics in the late 80's and early 90's are very good for OBD 1 diagnostic applications. The units show up on Ebay frequently. Just one of many choices.

So far, from the laptop side of it, Datamaster seems to be the easiest to make work and works really well as far as live smooth data.
Been trying to get tunerpro to work but can't find ads file for Z, can create files with this program but haven't been able to grasp the concept of that yet. Got it to work on another car and it's not near as smooth as datamaster, acts like it takes a picture every 3 seconds or so, but could be the file or might be smooth on the Z, not as simple as datamaster, the aldl connector I have seems to work kind of weird with tuner pro also so that might be the problem, tp says it doesn't see it in the test but it connects and gets data ![]() Tunercat I've heard is a good one, seems to be for tuning and will not record, looking into that one later. Kinda in the middle of my own R and D. Good Luck |

I have been using DataMaster Z2 v351 on my 1993 ZR-1. Very satisfied with it for recording and analyzing. I haven't tried any tuner programs yet but I am interested in learning more.

I do have the TECH 1 original GM scan tool for diagnosis of the vehicle, but this is only used for detecting and repairing trouble issues on powertrain, body modules, abs, asr, A/C, sound system, etc. You can fix all them with TECH 1 and the appropiate year GM Service Manual.
I mainly use TTS Datamaster for recording all OBD I powertrain parameters during a drive run. You start the Vette and run the program on the laptop connected to the diagnostic port below steering wheel by a special cable. Then you start to record all the engine parameters and data during the time you are driving the ZR1, speeds, rpm's, spark advances, fuel, emmissions, temperatures, etc. All is stored then in a file archive. When you arrive home, you can playback the archive file in your computer again and analyze all the data recorded, and is very usefull to know how is working your Vette during driving. It is amazing the quantity of data recorded in a run of 30 minutes. If you change or reprogram your ECM chip, this is a must for testing the changes you have done on it. You can download it in the TTS Datamaster web page and you can use it free as evaluation for 20 drive runs. Data playback is unlimited free. |
