Long answer: About replacement... spring steel doesn't fatigue from time, it fatigues from the number of cycles from static to stress within the elastic range. You would never wear one out in this manner. More than likely, over stressing from expanding it to far, would be the principal cause of failure. Short answer: "ever" is a long time, but not likely they would need to be replaced for failure. I replace them, but only because I prefer the style shown.
