Default "Sys" flashing

Hello everyone,

Got in my car this am and as I drove off I see "sys" flashing in the digital cluster. What does this mean and how serious?

Backstory: notice has never come on before. But Sunday night I left the interior light on and Tuesday go to start it and the battery is beyond dead. Jump the car, starts right up. Let it charge a bit and then shut it off. Get in this am, battery a little weak but starts. I drive off and everything seems to be working fine other than the "sys" notice. So I have to believe it's tied to the battery getting drained.

Any insight appreciated.

The battery has an internal short. You will see this just before your battery dies however make sure your battery is fully charged first. The only other explanation is after an aftermarket radio install which yours is not. However plan on buying a new battery. If you continue to see this message after you have fully charged the battery.. then trust me new battery time. GC

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, I'm pretty sure the "SYS" light will flash when the CCM has detected a problem. I bet you have a code set. You can manually retrieve the code and reset or hook it up to a scanner.

Thank you. Load off my mind. It's an acdelco battery. ..maybe original but doubt it. No aftermarket radio or components. Battery replacement is something that won't keep me up at night.

A "SYS" code is 99.99% of the time a warning just before the battery craps out.

I have an otc genesis scanner. Seems to work "ok" in communicating with the car. It Def won't clear my ltpmd light. But I will hook it up and see if it reads any codes.

Pull the bulb in the DIC and that light will go away. Or repair or replace the defective bands

GC was 100% correct. got into it after my breakfast meeting - "sys" light gone. I have to think since I didn't drive it after jumping it and letting idle/charge it was prob still reading a very low charge. But after driving it to my office - no "sys" message at all and things be well. Good to know for next time.

This board/group is the most impressive collection of people and knowledge I have personally come across in any specialty car environment. Makes owning cars like this much more enjoyable and a little less scary.

Thanks everyone
