Default Lumbar pump repair

I have not been on the forum very long, and seldom have anything to add, but, this forum helped me tremendously today.

My lumbar pump in each seat did not work. The pumps would not even run. I checked the repair manual, and after doing all of the tests to be sure my switches were working and I had power going to the pumps, all the repair manual suggested I do is to replace each pump.

I inquired at my local Chevy dealer and found that the Jasco lumbar pump is no longer available. (I did not ask if a repair kit was available, though I don't know if Chevrolet ever sold a repair kit for this pump). I also inquired at a vintage car parts house and others on the internet, but found that no one I checked with had the pump in stock.

I did a search on this forum and found that the pumps could be repaired by cutting new diaphrams from a vinyl shop glove. The post even had pictures and a description of how to remove and repair the pumps.

I thought it would be worth a try, so this afternoon I took the pumps apart. Sure enough, what I found was exactly what was described in the post. The diaphrams in each pump had crumbled and were in pieces. As the diaphram was broken, the pump could no longer turn. I cut new pieces from the shop glove, replaced the diaphram and put the pumps back in the seats. Each lumbar pump now works like new.

Thanks for the help.

The origiinal post was back in January 2008. It was titled "Jasco Lumbar pump repair" and was listed in the "general" posting section.

So far, it seems to work for me!

Yes, that is the post I was looking at. We are close to setting a new record for snow here in Aberdeen. We don't need any more, and March is usually when we get a lot of snow.

We have received well over 60 inches of snow so far this year. Not too bad considering our average snowfall is only about 37 inches. We just got another inch this morning. It will probably be another very wet spring around here again. Looks like it worked for the farmers this year. Not too sure they can depend on the prices and yield for this next year.

Nice fix Jerry. I too had to repair my driver side pump. Works like a charm.
Spring is around the corner.

Thumbs up Re: Lumbar pump repair

I did both lumbar pumps on 1990 #1217 that way over 6 years ago and even in Las Vegas dry Heat they still work like new, the secret just like a lot of other people said Heavy Duty yellow latex dishwashing gloves and a little lube, it was such an upgrade over stock.

Any suggestions on how to get tubing connectors apart without breaking them?
