Re: ZR1 before & after
How about this - 20% of the shops do good work 80% of the time. The other 80% of the shops do good work 20% of the time.
I've worked in service for several dealers in the past (as a tech not a writer) and I would venture to say that generally speaking we took pretty good care of the customers car. That's not to say you can't find video on You Tube of punk kids trashing SS Camaro's and Shelby's but I really do think those are anomolies. I would trust a dealer before I would trust any other shop that I did not have prior experience with or a good recommendation. The problem is I'm just not convinced the current dealership network knows these cars anymore. At this point, I would rather transport my Z to either Corey (who's 4 1/2 hours away) or if need be I'd send it to Chicago before I would drop it off somewhere I was unfamiliar with. At least then I know it's being worked on by people who know this car better than I do and care about this car at least as much. IMHO - that's worth the cost of a transport. Plus it gives me a good excuse for a road trip when it's ready to pick up!

Re: ZR1 before & after
Ditto Fully Vetted Your right , That why when I get ready to do the engine work its headed to Pete.. I'd say Marc and Jerry are also with the program.. I'm sure there are also others here on the site. ( I would trust people here ) ( that are known ) rather than take a chance anywhere else..JMO .. Now if it was just some old truck or camaro I'd gamble but not with a ZR1 and what it cost for parts etc..

Re: ZR1 before & after
We rely on Corey, Pete, Marc and Jerry (no particular order) more then we could express. However, there are several on this board that contribute an unbelievable amount ofvknowledge based on their own experiences and builds. They just don't do it for a living.
Guys like Brett, Cliff and Hib just to name a few have shared a tremendous amount of research, trial and error and knowledge. Thanks to all of you for helping some of us dimwhits live out our dream.

Re: ZR1 before & after
Last time I took a car to the dealer(05 GT Mustang Convertible), got it back with 100 more miles on it and both back tires were cooked off of it with rubber boogers all over both quarter panels and under the wheel wells. Took the car in with 1,700 miles, got it back with 1,805 miles on it.
Dealer bought me new tires, Ford had to buy it back after that. Had the snot ran out of it. Ask me what I think about dealers! Gibby |
