The much-anticipated ZR1 was intended for a 1989 debut, but was technically delayed to 1990. However, 1989s were indeed built, and some eventually found their way into private hands. It was an aluminum-block V-8 with four overhead camshafts, 32 valves, and included a unique air-management system that provided a wider power band by shutting off eight of the 16 intake runners and fuel injectors when the engine was at part throttle, while still giving the ZR1 375 hp wide open. Torque was rated at 390 lb-ft. These machines consistently ran the quarter-mile in the low 13s.
