Default Service Ride Control Light

Hey Guys:

Back with another problem with the ZR-1. Noticed lately that the Service Ride Control Light comes on when starting the car. Have no idea what to look for. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am assuming money flying out the window.

Have the original owner's manual and I am quoting from it. "When you start the car, this light should come on briefly to let you know it's working. You should have the light fixed if it doesn't come on, or you won't know if there's a problem w/ the system. It's normal for the Service Ride Control light to stay on if you've turned the ignition from "OFF" or "Lock" to ""Run" three times without moving the car. The light should go out once you drive the car. If the light stays on when you move the car or comes on while your driving, there is a problem with the system. You can still drive your Corvette, but have your Chevy dealer check the Selective Ride Control System as soon as you can." Hope that helps.

wow, forgot that was all in there. I'll have to read it again. Especially the part about "have your Chevy dealer check the Selective Ride Control...."

Thank you Vilant. I was a little too hasty in remitting my thread, been out a couple times since and light went out. Have to learn to be more observant.

Hey Crusin, I just had this same problem yesterday. If the light does not go out you need to check the code by going to the ALDL connector and ground terminal C. The most common problem is a broken shock gear which Corvette Central sells for $35.00. Let us know if this helps.

the most common problem is a broke plastic actuator gear not the shock gear. This gear can break with age/heat or can be broken by not placing the actuator back on correctly.

Thanks for your INFO guys. After taking car out later I noticed the light went out. If it ever does stay on at least I know what to look for now.

as soon as the VSS signal shows a few mph, that common ride control light will go off as soon as the speed is reached.

start you car 3 or 4 times without going anywhere and the light pops right up. Another common problem is if you reinstall a shock after a repair and over/under tighten the top nut and the actuator can't turn the valving.

This is what viliant posted earlier about the "three times".
