Default Loctite 262 is now 263?

At Fastenal, they advised that 262 is now reformulated to 263...thicker and less waste...anyone lease hear this?

I was also told certain loctites need a primer for stainless applications.. and that the formula upgrades eliminate that..

Default Re: Loctite 262 is now 263?

New Loctite® 243 and 263 – why we call them “The Best Ever”

Since Loctite® invented the industry’s first threadlocker in 1953, Loctite®243 has been the leading medium strength Threadlocker and Loctite® 262, 270, 271 the leading high strength Threadlockers. The best way to stay on top is of course to continue to invest in R&D and always collaborate with our customers to understand their needs and experiences with the products.
Best Ever Loctite®263 & 243

We have never stopped developing these already great products in order to help you – our customers to reduce cost and improve reliability. The result is the new generation of medium-strength threadlocker Loctite® 243, and Loctite® 263, the new generation of high-strength threadlocker, combining all the benefits of Loctite® 262, 270 and 271 into a single enhanced formulation.
Loctite® 243 and 263 threadlockers offer “Best Ever” performance which have major improvements over the previous generation products, and the performance improvements that you requested from us. The most important of these are:
  • Higher active and passive substrates performance – even without activator use
    • Active substrates: iron, copper, brass, steel
    • Passive substrates: stainless steel, aluminum, plated surfaces
  • Improved high temperature performance – resistant up to 180°C
    • Superior heat aging resistance
    • More reliable in high-temperature applications
  • Improved oil resistance
    • Very robust curing performance on fasteners without oil contamination traces
    • Tolerant to industrial oils
For a detailed discussion of these performance improvements with laboratory testing results, please go to the Featured Products Section on this site.
And from working with you, our customers, we know that you really don’t want to change your existing processes and equipment in order to be able to benefit from these new products. Therefore we have made absolutely certain that the current Loctite® Material Specification for Loctite® 243, 262, 270 and 271 including appearance, fluorescence, viscosity and compressive shear strength, will remain unchanged for the new generation products.
This is why new Loctite® 243 and 263 threadlockers are the “Best Ever”.
