I think the lesson in an auction is, put a reserve price on it.

I've never liked Barrett Jackson! Too much hopla and guess who pays for it? Craig and Steve laugh all the way to the bank and back. Couldn't have done any worse on Fleabay and could have set a reserve.

What did #82 sell for? I'm too lazy to go to the B-J website to check...

I think pretty much everyone knew Barret- Jackson use to be a no reserve auction, until recently. Last knight at the start of the show they said their were going to be a few cars with a reserve. One of their previous auctions, Scottsdale maybe, had a lot of cars with a reserve.

Now, cars with an estimated market value (who determines that is unknown) of $250K or over can have reserves. There are about 5 cars here that qualify.

I would NEVER go with a NR auction... met a fellow with a very nice AH speedster and he had spent a load of $$ doing a full frame off restoration...nice car but he was cr*pping nails over poor auction results and expecting loose his shirt. Will be interesting to see results and hope he does well.

I don't honestly think that this will affect the market in any way (for the immediate future anyway). it is one of the wonderful things about the power of auctions, when 69 camaros started selling, every nimrod with a rusted out piece of s*it started asking for the weight in gold "one just like this just sold a B-J for $250,000". but when prices drop sellers say things like "those auctions don't mean anything"
The sad sad truth is that this car is at this price, worth less than the sum of it's parts.
