Swapping in 13:1 steering rack and in air bag steering wheel
I have gotten rid of air bags and air bag steering wheels in all my cars and would like to do it on the new ZR1 I have coming in. Is there a separate air bag computer and where's it located?
Also, I would like to swap in the 13:1 quicker steering rack from the earlier C4. Has anyone done that? Any issues? Gordon |

Gordon, the air bag module is located behind the center stack ( where the radio et al lives.) it's bolted down to the metal dash frame on the firewall end of the trans tunnel.
If I remember right it's orange I think, anyway it says that it is the air bag module on it you can't miss identify it. The solid yellow sheathed wires plug into it. Another member from Mass. I do believe did the rack change. I will see if I can locate his handle and post it here for you. Tom Jeff from Mass. his handle is Batchman.

Re: Swapping in 13:1 steering rack and in air bag steering wheel
Thanks much, Tom. The air bag deletes are because I hate them, they weigh a good bit, end up with a big steering wheel, etc. I am also swapping out the stock seats for some lighter Cobra Misanos, and was hoping to get a lighter battery with more cranking amps and put in one of the bins.
Has anyone tried deleting the pop up headlights and putting halogens behind the turn signal lamps, while putting in smaller LED turn lamps? Lighting technology has changed a lot and those headlights must weigh 20-25 pounds between them? I'd love to reuce the weight 125 pounds or so and move the distribution to closer to 50-50. Gordon |
