Header/Exhaust/Intake/Chip recommendations?
I've got a customer interested in installing a full exhaust system w/headers on his 90'zr1. I'm also looking for a Cold Air Intake system and a performance ECU chip to compliment. The throwout bearing is making noise as well and I'll have the transmission out to install a new clutch/pilot/throwout, this should ease header removal/install I'd assume.
We're pretty much looking for a somewhat loud exhaust, and I've looked around but not sure what brand I'm looking for or where to find or even what they sound like so I figured I'd come here and ask. Customers exact words, "I want it an inch below obnoxious"..... I've looked around all night... but looking for personal recommendations/experience/info on an intake system, exhaust system w/headers, Chip, and a clutch kit setup while I'm at it.... As for the chip/tuning, any recommended tuners in the Chicago area? Appreciate any input.... thanks Last edited by NWPzr1; 08-02-2011 at 02:57 AM. |

http://www.zr1specialist.com/index.htm Marc is the man in your area for some suggestions as to what combos work.
Also, the guys from the FBI ( Fast Boys of IL ) that hang out here can give you a lot of insight on what combos work well. Tom

NW,
There are quite a few of us here in the Chicagoland area. I'm in Bartlett, Lgaff is located nearby you in Crystal Lake. The FBI have a number of different LT-5 configurations as far as mods, tune(I do my own), displacement, exhaust. Marc Haibeck is the main guru here, but a number of us are DIY'rs. Welcome to the club. |

Great, good to know.... thanks for all of the info tomtom72. Does Marc have a dyno?
Thanks XfireZ51, Crystal Lake is right down the street... LGAFF, tempting.... so tempting in fact that I know he'd do it, we'll see as I just did the injectors a few days ago. I'll run it by him and let you know for sure.... 25-35whp? nice! That would compliment the other mods nicely. |

Marc specializes is the ZR-1 and your client is lucky to live in the Chicago area as Marc is one of the best of the best ZR-1 mechanics you'll find. When you get to that point, you could just give the car to him to install the chip and tune it. He'll go all through the thing to make sure nothing is out of whack before wasting time on the dyno. From personal experience on several occasions, including tuning, you won't be disappointed! P.

Thanks for the vids, so much better than staring at a pic of the exhaust. Are you going to be running cats? If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your exhaust? Recommend anyone decent, or even websites for ZR1 exhausts/parts I could take gander at? Also, I'll take that ported intake off your hands in the next week or two when I've got time to rip that plenum off and drive out to you(I'm just east of McHenry). I'll let you know asap... Do you by chance have any pics of finished product? I'd really like to see it if possible before I go removing his plenum again. |

I have pics of the porting, IHs need to be refinished....I would run them over some time for a look, easy to paint or powder coat. I have done 9 intakes......send me your # and I will give you a call.
