Default Engine Oil Leak

I've got an engine oil leak out the back of the crank, where the crank bore is plugged with that "freeze plug" arrangement. It's a small leak now; I had a copious leak first, pulled the engine and the plug was totally dislodged. I reset the plug, but apparently it didn't fully seal. What's the trick to sealing the plug?? Or, what other damage should I be looking for when I get the "heart of the beast" out THIS time????? (I'm becoming a bit of an expert at pulling this mill, and that's NOT bragging!!!!) BTW - it's a '93 crate engine that I've installed in my '90 Z. Thanks for any help!!
