Texas BBQ
Big Thanks to Glenn and Mary for being hosts again for the Texas Gathering. Of course, thanks to Corey as well for opening up his shop and letting the BS flow from all of us old timers. Very good crowd attended. North Texas (Dallas) was well represented with Gary James riding down with Marc Randolph in Marc's Black/Grey 91. Misled was there without the Turk, of course. I don't think the Turk has run in at least 10 years. Last time I saw it run was at the Texas BBQ at the hanger in 1998 (I think). Will brought his beautiful TT 385. Sanja drove his 90 415 to leave it with Corey for a few minor fixes. Richard drove his Red 92. Bob pulled his Black 95 385 out of retirement and drove it. Amazing. Dewey was there but not driving his 93. Glenn drove his Turk 91. I am terrible on names, young man from Brownwood, TX drove his Green 91. Jerry Downey came down from OK in his Turbo 95 LT1 auto. He was kind enough to let me try it out. Way Kool. On about 12 lbs boost it had a very nice kick. I would guess that it would come pretty close to staying up with a lightly modded Z and would walk on a stock Z. I would have loved to have driven it at the drags but they still had it on the dyno at 9 Fri night. After driving it, I tried to convince Will that I needed to drive his for a boosted car comparison. :-) Somehow Will failed to see my point of view. Maybe it was because of all the drool whenever I looked at his car. Michael (San Antonio) drove his 91 to Corey's but had go and didn't get to come out to Glenn's. Lee Sikes was there also. And others that my old brain can't recall. Sorry, CRS you know. Oh, Arnold was driving his 09 modded Z06 that ran 190+ at Texas Mile a couple of weeks ago. Sounded really strong. There were other Corvettes there that I just can't remember. Oh, of course, the Yellow Z from MD. Jim and David. They didn't know me so I got to lay some BS on them. :-) Paul Dehnert made it after getting stuck in Denver (3' of snow). Great time to rehash old times and make new friends. Weather was terrific. High 70's sunshine. Glenn and Mary laid out the Texas BBQ and opened up their home and garage for all. We all still are amazed that Glenn's 67 BB is still just sitting in the back of his garage. I think it is his 401K except better. I didn't go to the drags Fri. I was going if Jerry got his running right but stayed at home to rest up for the Sat goings on. Great time. Missed not seeing Tony and Toby but there is always next year.
