OK, one of the previous owners of my 1990 decided he/she had to have the window tinted with that wonderful tinting film

I really don't care for it all that much and would like to remove it. Has anyone tried removing this stuff themselves? Everything I have been able to find online suggest this job is a real nightmare, especially the rear window. Is this a job for someone with average skill level, or is this something that should be left to a professional?
