Re: tips on pulling cam covers?
Don't know about the STP. I do know that @ the Kirban site they say that their additive, ZDDP, has 0.15% of the zinc phosphate stuff. They say that matches the specs for the oil school motor oils from the days of flat tappet cam'ed cars.
All the turbo buick guys that I've met and quite a few guys that have old muscle cars swear by the stuff. Ron Kreigh turned us on to the stuff as he's a fan of the buicks. I'm not a chemist so I don't know what to think. I used to use stuff called "assembly lube". It looked like grey tooth paste & the active ingredients were molyb-di-sulfide and this zinc phosphate stuff. Smeared plenty of it on the lobes, journals & bearings & lifter bottoms....followed the 20 min./2krpm rules....never had an issue with either cam install that I did on my own stuff...but that was back in the 70's & late 80's on sbc's. This kind of sucks!
