I think the hose was the first problem than the pump has been on for a long time and the fuse popped.

Yes I think you found your trouble. The hose must have been holed first and then the fuse popped from over heating caused by the pump running too long. Strickly speaking the pump should run to prime up the system and then be silent for the duration of time that the motor is left running....but in the real world a brief burst every long while is a servicable system. Ideally it should only run at start up and then never again...if there are absolutely no vacuum leaks, not even the smallest of leaks. You should be okay.
