Last weekend I was only two hours into my first track day and had completed with instructor when during cool down lap, voltmeter needle in the up position. Bummer. End of day. Hitched a ride home with another participant and went back next day with truck/trailer. Upon opening the alternator it revealed that one of the two rotor coil wires fractured and about 3/4 inch of wire disappeared from solder joint. The first time the soldering terminal fractured and made some shrapnel and ruined the rotor. Both times after high 6,800 plus runs. Obviously centrifugal force is a factor. I have the rotor at an electronic shop now to do creative splicing and soldering. Both were AC Delco. Has me spooked now. Yes I have the 2.75 pulley on it. Any thoughts or experience?
