90 ZR1 #1766 black/black story
http://www.mcsmk8.com/zr1/90ZR1.HTM
This is 90 zr1 1766, i have had since 97. It has a few bolt ons, of which all were on another black/black 90 i extensively raced in 90s. I did many events and non mentionable events with that other car and literally ?ruled? the streets and top end world in some good events in the hayday of these cars. Endurance was and is their strong points, and i use every inch of that from top speeds in the 180s, even over 190 in that car, for miles and miles on end, to street race launches and general fun. I was on this site from beginning as Ultra Slow as my name. This was a time when we took the 1320 ft mark and made it much longer. Us racers from 70s and 80s now in 90s super car that beat anything we could really build at the time. It was amazing and i literally had the chance to ream a zr1 for 70k miles and it just came back for more. I figured i had abused that car long enough but loved it. So i took all my mods off, put the other black/black car that i raced some 70k miles back to stock? sold to a friend that loved it. I then regretted losing my black black hot rod, so i bought a super low mile one, this 1766 car of which was garage queen and still is. I then put back just bolt ons, from the basics, k&n, open lid, drm chip, harness bar, desert development exhaust, dropped rear spring an inch or so. I then changed my 3:45s to 4:09s, put on 96 GS front calipers and ss lines on all 4. I had the set of dymags i picked up from tommy morrison of which he swore were one of sets saved used on EDS car during its 24 hour record breaking endurance run, of which that car was sadly destroyed but 5 sets of the wheels from that supposedly existed. For this car i refinished the pretty beat dymags and went with gsc?s then incorporated the 90 oem center caps in for the open look. I did change injectors on this car for multec reasons but never touched motor other than getting Dave Mclellan signing my intake at an event around that time. Since then 1766 has covered about 17k miles over its life and i just show it. It has been in my collection since and 25 years later im just getting back to these cars as that was my plan all along, to see the zr1 become a classic. And that they are!!
