Coolant hose quick connect alernative
Not sure if anyone has ever found the following info already (I’m sure someone has), but I thought I’d share my experience in hopes that someone finds it helpful later.
My coolant heater hose quick connector going to the thermostat housing from the heater core was broken in my accident 4+ years ago. This is the larger 3/4” hose, not the end that Jerry sells the fitting for (which I think is 5/8”). I was unable to source a replacement hose/pipe set, Part 10135629 I believe, so I spliced a 3/4” heater hose in and just clamped it to the thermostat housing. Well after about 4,000 miles it developed a small leak. I imagine this happened because the nipple on the thermostat housing is just smooth aluminum. With this being located in an area with no access, just tightening the clamp was not an easy solution. Did some searching for parts and found Gates 28502 3/4” heater hose quick connector. Part fits many GM trucks. The connector has a quick connect end that slides right on the thermostat housing. The other end receives a 3/4” rubber hose. Still had to splice back to the original rubber, but I eliminated one area for future concern. Used a plastic coolant hose Union and some constant tension screw clamps. Some pics below. If anyone is reading this and has a spare coolant pipe set (from heater/surge tank to thermostat housing) that they would like to get rid of I’d be interested in buying it as the rubber end at the heater core is starting to deteriorate.
