Default Fuel filter change issues

After replacing my injectors and before starting the car, I thought it would be an opportune time to change the fuel filter. After removing the fuel line on the input side it leaked over two cups at a dribble rate. It slowed a bit but never got to the drip-drip stage. I got concerned about the fumes, etc. and put the line back on pending thoughts from the forum. Its not worth going up in flames!

Note: The fuel rails are empty, the gas cap has been burped, and the car hasn't ran or had the battery hooked up for a month. The fuel tank is about half.

How long does it take to quit dripping, or does it?

Thanks for any helpful comments/suggestions.

If this is too basic of a question for you please disregard.
