Default 1961 Fuel Injected Pre-Production Pilot Line Convertible

1961 Fuel Injected Pre-production Pilot Line Corvette Convertible! VIN 00002! Roman Red with Red Interior. This is the earliest 1961 Corvette known to exist. This Corvette was produced before the production dies were ready for the newly restyled rear body panels. Also, the extremely large die for the newly designed floor/trunk/lower firewall body section was not ready. Therefore, all of these panels were created in the styling lab from hand layed fiberglass- most likely done right on the original mahogany styling buck. Other unique parts are also related to specific changes for the 1961 model year. The cylinder heads for the engine are pre-production engineering lab castings. The front crossed-flags emblem (newly restyled for 1961) is a sand-casting on this Corvette - evidently production pieces had not been obtained from the vendor when this car was assembled. This Corvette is most likely one of the '61's used in publicity photos prepared before regular production began. The factory options on this Corvette include the 283/315HP fuel-injected V8, 4-speed Manual Transmission, 4:11 positraction rear axle, heater, signal-seeking (Wonderbar) AM Radio, Whitewall tires, and 2-tone paint. The powertrain is original. The body has no collision damage. There has been one refinish of the exterior paint that was done back in 1969 and it is still very presentable. Most of the chrome is original, installed by GM and is also in excellent condition. The interior has been completely restored, including gauges, seat belts, door panels, dash pad, carpets, etc. Original vinyl trim that was removed was saved and included in the sale. There have been only two owners of this Corvette in the last 40 years, the current one being Joe Conte, of Conte's Corvettes. The prior owner is a lifelong personal friend of Joe's. There is much more to tell about this Corvette - too much to list here. If you have a sincere interest in acquiring this unique, historically - significant Corvette, please contact us for all of the details. . . . . . . . $225,000
