change color to competition yellow?

If I could ask, when you repaint, do you just sand up the red to use as a base coat or do you have to also primer it?

I ask because I will be repainting my yellow Z down the road and ask how to do it properly despite what the painter may want to do. Thanks!

It really depends on what color you start with, in my case putting a transparent yellow over red required the need of a white sealer, if the car would have been black or white originaly it might be possible to just scuff and paint. It also depends on condition of the existing paint; mine was perfect so no real need for any kind of surface work that would have required a building type primer to smooth out imperfections. Sounds like we should have traded if you are painting a yellow car another color
